Adults and children 4th grade and older are welcome, whether it’s your first time in the snow, you are a returning guest or a seasoned snowshoer. There’s something for everyone! Prior to your snowshoe adventure, check the weather forecast here and the road conditions here.

  • Approximately 1.5-2 hours traveling 2 miles on rolling terrain.
Snowshoes are provided for all walks. Check out this instructional video to learn how to wear snowshoes!

PLEASE NOTE: No dogs allowed on our Snowshoe walks.

Location/Parking Details
Each snowshoe walk meets and begins with an orientation at the Forest Service Guard Station located in Parking Lot A at Stevens Pass Mountain Resort. Please have your reservation confirmation email in your possession, either digitally or printed, upon arrival to present to Stevens Pass parking attendants for reserved snowshoe program parking.

The address for the Guard Station at Stevens Pass is:
Lot A
Stevens Pass Hwy #34491
Leavenworth, WA 98826
For map directions, please click here.

It is recommended that you allow extra travel time due to heavy volumes of traffic and to find parking at Stevens Pass. It is very busy on the weekends, making parking challenging. Make sure to check weather, road and traffic conditions before you leave home and adjust your timing accordingly. To do so visit the Washington Department of Transportation Website for Stevens Pass.

Please note: The parking lot at Stevens Pass will be covered with snow and ice; please use caution when walking to and from the Guard Station. Sturdy boots with good tread, traction devices and/or poles can be helpful.

After parking and due to limited space at the Guard Station, please consider visiting the lodge in the Stevens Pass base area for ample restrooms, snacks, coffee and a place to change into your winter clothes. For more information, cancellations, or to make changes regarding our reservation, please email or call the Skykomish Ranger Station at (360)-677-2414. We are staffed Monday-Friday from 9:00-4:00.

Snowshoe Program Description

Stevens Pass Winter Discovery Snowshoe Walk
This snowshoe walk takes about 2 hours and travels 2 miles over rolling terrain following the Pacific Crest Trail, winding through a beautiful forest setting. You'll experience a diverse array of plant species adapted to endure harsh mountain winters and the opportunity to look for signs of wildlife. Each discovery tells us a new story about this vibrant mountain habitat. We'll guide you through this winter walk at a moderate pace featuring winter ecology facts that you can share with your friends and family. We suggest if you are planning to bring children on this walk that they are fourth grade and older. Scroll to the bottom for more information on what to wear and what to bring.
  • Suggested donation: Adults $20/person, youth 16 and under $10/person
  • Group capacity: 10
  • Days and times:
    • 9:30 AM on Fridays
    • 9:30 AM on Saturdays
What to bring on your Snowshoe walk:
  • Backpack with extra layers.
  • Water: More than you think! 16 ounces (0.5 liters) or more of water, something warm in a mug or thermos is nice too.
  • Snacks
  • Sunscreen
  • Appropriate clothing: Waterproof pants and jacket, warm hat, gloves or mittens, sunglasses or goggles.
  • Please check the weather forecast ahead of time and dress accordingly. Make sure to layer with clothing that can insulate you when wet, such as wool or synthetics (we don’t recommend cotton clothing such as shirts/sweatshirts/pants/jeans because they will get wet and cold and don’t perform well in a winter mountain environment).
  • Footwear: sturdy waterproof boots with ankle support are recommended.
  • Consider an extra pair of gloves for the kids!
  • Optional: camera, GPS, map, binoculars, and trekking poles with snow baskets.
  • Post Trip Recommendations: Bring extra clothing, shoes and socks to change into for the ride home.

Note: There may be times due to extreme avalanche/weather conditions or road closures that may require us to cancel the Stevens Pass Snowshoe Program for the safety of those involved. Check the website before leaving home for cancellations. We will make an attempt to contact you if a trip is canceled. Any canceled trips will be rescheduled at a later time and date.

Please note that if reservations for walks are full, spaces can become available due to cancellations. If you would like to be added to a wait list, please email:  or call the Skykomish Ranger Station at (360)-677-2414.
