Product Details

This twenty-three minute movie is a broad overview that depicts the history of the Nez Perce beginning with oral traditions and continuing through the present. The 1805 meeting with the Lewis and Clark expedition, the arrival of Christian missionaries, the invasion of their homeland by white settlers, the discovery of gold on the reservation, and the War of 1877 are all covered. Filmed in the beautiful landscape of Idaho, the Nez Perce relate their own history and cultural heritage. They reenact the arrival of Lewis and Clark, discuss the later appearance of missionaries and gold seekers, and explain the effects of these outsiders on their culture. The Nez Perce community of today and their continuing history are shown throughout this living portrait of a people.
Features: 23 minutes. 1984.
