Multnomah Falls in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area is truly the likes of a waterfall out of a storybook. Located in Oregon, just off the Columbia River Gorge, you can see it from Interstate 84 cascading beautifully down the basalt stone face of Larch Mountain from a height of 620 feet. This waterfall is the second tallest in our nation and the fourth tallest in the world. In this 'old time' image, artist Paul A. Lanquist features a couple looking up at the graceful waterfall as it flows down over the cliff face and under Benson Bridge. Off to the side is the cozy Multnomah Falls Lodge, which dates from 1925, emitting a thin, ethereal strand of smoke from its chimney.
