Product Details

Located among the badlands and sagebrush steppe of eastern Oregon, John Day Fossil Beds National Monument protects nearly 14,000 acres of one of the most significant and continuous sequences of fossil deposits on Earth. The colorful rock formations record the details of ancient ecosystems, climate, landscape, and the evolution of plants and animals. Eight distinct assemblages can easily be recognized spanning 40 million years. One of these assemblages is contained in the green and tan claystones and siltstones of the Turtle Cove Member. This booklet includes images and descriptions of fossil examples found in the Turtle Cove Member assemblage.
