Scattered across Central Oregon, along old streambeds and behind crumbling homesteads, stand apple trees that have weathered more than a century of drought, frost, and abandonment. Some date to the 1880s; most are heritage varieties rarely seen in commercial orchards today.
The Heritage Apple Corps is a volunteer-run, community-driven initiative working to find these trees and ensure they survive!
Your donation directly supports our hands-on work: pruning and restoring these trees including the historic McCoin and Cyrus orchards, DNA testing to identify rare varieties, propagating cuttings to clone irreplaceable trees, and building a conservation arboretum to safeguard their genetics for future generations. Heritage Apple Corps also lead community workshops and in-orchard education to grow the next generation of orchard stewards. Learn more at www.heritageapplecorps.org.
