The Hells Canyon National Recreation Area (NRA) in west central Idaho and northeastern Oregon was established by Congress on December 31, 1975. Its 652,488 acres straddle Hells Canyon of the Snake River, from the peaks of Idaho's Seven Devils Mountains on the east to Oregon's rimrock and mountain slopes on the west.
