SUPPORT GRANITE MOUNTAIN LOOKOUT

Perched at 5,629 feet in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, the Granite Mountain Lookout has stood watch over the Cascades since 1953. Originally built as part of the Forest Service’s fire detection network, it remains one of the few historic lookouts still open to the public — a rare link to the early days of wildfire stewardship.

But this iconic structure faces constant challenges. Harsh winds, heavy snow, and relentless freeze–thaw cycles take a toll every year. With reduced agency staffing and limited resources, the lookout now depends heavily on volunteers who hike steep miles to repair shutters, reinforce the foundation, and protect it from weather damage and vandalism. Their dedication is remarkable, but they can’t do it alone.

Your donation directly supports essential repairs, materials, and volunteer efforts. Together, we can ensure this beloved mountaintop landmark endures for future generations!
