About Bonneville Lock and Dam:
Named for Army Capt. Benjamin Bonneville, an early Oregon Trail explorer, Bonneville Lock and Dam is a National Historic Landmark managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Located east of Portland, Oregon, the dam provides hydropower to the Pacific Northwest and improves navigation on the Columbia River. In addition to the impressive powerhouses, spillway, and navigation locks, visitors come each year to view the fish ladders that help the native salmon and steelhead navigate the dam on their journey upriver to spawn.
