The Skykomish Ranger District, within the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, is an area of spectacular beauty with more than 150 high mountain lakes, high rocky pinnacles, occasional glaciers, alpine meadows, heavily timbered lower slopes, and hundreds of miles of clear rushing streams and rivers. The district encompasses 65,000 acres of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, 47,000 acres of the Henry M. Jackson Wilderness, and 13,000 acres of the Mount Index Scenic Area. The Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail also winds its way in and out of the district for 53 miles on its way from Mexico to Canada.
