Marmots are a familiar sight in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest. Similar to a beaver, these resilient little animals are often seen along the trails of Mount Rainier National Park where they generally like to stay in the subalpine meadows and hibernate in the winter. They mostly eat plants and seeds and stand on their hind legs while they nibble on their food. Marmots are usually 1 to 2 feet tall and weigh 8 to 10 pounds.
